Altercation: Dear Senator Clinton

Comments

I've read your blog/letter to Senator Clinton on cnn and one thing popped in to my mind that i'm not so sure i'm grasping correctly.

Most democrats (excluding good 'ole Joe Lieberman) this time of (election) year seem to be clamoring for an "exit strategy". Why are we doomed to repeat a miltary mistake that cost the lives of so many troops 30 years ago?

After Nixon announced his gradual "exit strategy" the war didn't instantly end. U.S. troops continued to fight, bleed and die in a foreign country for a war we had declared we were done with.

That seems eerily similar to what the democrats are calling for these days. I'm no fan of Mr. Bush by any stretch. However, as Mr. McCain put it this morning in an interview (paraphrased to the best of my recollection) we don't need a 'when' we're going to leave Iraq, but a 'how', as in at what state will we leave when we do leave.

Would you want to continue to do your job if your boss told you that you were closing up shop at that particular location in a few months? Now imagine that same feeling if you were putting your life on the line day in and day out.

The key seems to be to figure out how to get Iraq on her own two feet again. Regardless of whether or not the war was morally justified to begin with or not, the fact is, we are there now. How to get out while doing the best for the Iraqi and U.S. people is what we need to focus on.

Just a few thoughts while I was reading on my lunch break. Thanks for the mental excercise today.

sorry, was on msnbc, not cnn.
