Ah, yes. How could I have forgotten the Spurs?

Siva's right. How could I have forgotten the defending NBA champs and seemingly unstoppable juggernaut known as the San Antonio Spurs? They'd have to be odds-on favorites to win the conference at this point, especially because I don't see how the Clippers can match up with them, and Steve Nash's defensive problems would be even more exposed if he had to guard Tony Parker.
Maybe they slipped my mind because of the joyless efficiency of any given Spurs effort. Although Tim Duncan appeared mildly surprised at one non-call on a foul in the last game against the Kings, and Tony Parker came within an inch of smiling after the victory, the emotional range of the Spurs seems to be stuck between "stolid constipation" and "grim humorlessness." I actually watch Spurs games mostly to unwind after the nailbiting tension of the Newshour on PBS or a late-night test pattern. And yes, I realize Siva's going to kill me.
