O for 21
"Imagine an explosion strong enough to blow a car's trunk apart, caused by a bomb inside a passenger plane. Government sources tell NBC News that federal investigators recently were able to carry materials needed to make a similar homemade bomb through security screening at 21 airports.
"In all 21 airports tested, no machine, no swab, no screener anywhere stopped the bomb materials from getting through. Even when investigators deliberately triggered extra screening of bags, no one discovered the materials." ...

...meanwhile, on our recent trip to NYC, Laurie, Haley and I got the full pat-down at the airport.
My weapon of choice, a swiss army keychain pocketknife, with a blade that is an inch and a half long, was in my checked bag, so no worries.
However, when we went to see the Statue of Liberty, I did not anticipate the two security screenings, and had the keychain pocketknife with me. I have made this mistake before, and have had about three of these pocketknives apprehended. But this time I successfully got through the two security checkpoints they had set up for the Statue. Woo hoo!
I believe a bomb-sniffing dog, like at Siva's place, is the way to go. It is much less threatening when the crotch check is performed.
BTW, why is the WTC site so heavily guarded? That would be the dumbest place to bomb: 1. there's nothing there, 2. it's already been done. -PJ
