How will Semantic Web and tagging change information searching and librarianship?

Here is the start of a good conversation:

catalogers vs. search engines

Here’s an interesting post over at Sivacracy.net that raises questions about the value of search engines used as cataloging systems relative to library professionals. Siva’s contends that the library profession still has a role, because it is more interested in taking the public interest into account. I wonder to what extent, some of this divide can be mollified through Semantic Web implementations, since it often relies on end-user coding. Of course, it will always be the most sophisticated and tech-savvy 10%(?) that will actively engage in things like tagging.
