My Talented Cousin

Regular readers of Sivacracy will be familiar with my cousin Neeraja Viswanathan's great work in her new book The Street Law Handbook.

Recently The Street Law Handbook was featured in a write-up in The New York Times Book Review.

And Neeraja now has a blog of her own!

Well, she is also a talented poet. While we were in India Neeraja was dog-sitting for Ellie.ellie.jpg

Every day Neeraja would write a poem about Ellie in a different form. Here they are:

29 December: ellie is depressed dreamy doe eyes gone droopy still, tail wags like fan.

30 December:
There once was a dog named ellie
Whose parents went off to Delhi
She's sad they're gone
But she's not alone
Cause I'm here to rub her belly.

31 December:
Ellie, oh, Ellie, your parents think you smell.
So do do that voodoo that you do so well!

1 January
For my last effort, I
have written "The Ode to Apartment 13E":
4:44 am
Drunk woman screaming at boyfriend
Use bedroom voice please.
Pod coffee good, but
(Splenda sucks)
Nice television too bright for my eyes
But will I ever again
Get used to sleeping in a queen size bed?
Ah, dining room table
How I long for thee.
But the best
Is four furry white legs
Upside down in the air
Fast asleep
Always happy
Makes everyone happy.
