Hearts and Minds

Kerry is getting criticized quite vociferously from many corners, and I blog again in his defense. He isn't a perfect person and didn't run a perfect campaign, but he worked hard and did very well, and deserves much respect and admiration. I'm an educated, reasonably articulate person who can't even convince my neighbors that better public schools would improve the South Carolina economy, something that seems obvious and uncontroversial to me. They enroll their children in private schools and want tax cuts, case closed. Somehow, Kerry inspired almost half the adults in this country to channel their better selves. We need more people like him to get involved in the public sphere. Castigating Kerry just drives good people away from politics. Honor and applaud him. Save your bile for those who earn it.
