« South Carolina: Don't I Wish | Main | Keeping Hope »

A Very Long Night

The Republican party certainly knows how to win. I don't understand much about the electorate, I guess. Here in South Carolina, we have one of the most poorly rated public school systems in the nation, deteriorating roads and other infrastructure systems that need maintenance and improvement, serious public health issues and a stagnant economy, yet the voters seem to chose candidates largely based on the perceived likelihood of a tax increase.

South Carolina is a "taker" state, receiving more money in federal subsidies and assistance than South Carolinians pay in federal taxes. If the Federal Government completely abolished the income tax, there would be even less public money in South Carolina than there is now.

The majority of voters in this state obviously feel that Republicans are more likely than Democrats to make conditions in the state better, or at least not allow them to get worse.
