I can't get past Sen. Clinton's argument that she should be the democratic candidate because only she can bring in the stupid, redneck vote. It just kills me that the democratic party has gone back to courting racists.

Having grown up in the Texas Panhandle, I have no doubt that there are huge numbers of people in the U.S. who won't vote for someone of color. No doubt at all. And nothing will change their minds. I also have no doubt that just as many, if not more, won't vote for a woman and (surprise!) there is polling data to back this up and not just my gut feeling or horror stories from campaign workers. It would be nice if voters didn't base decisions on who most looks like them, who seems "nicest," or who seems like (s)he'd be fun to have a drink with. But they do. And so the candidates continue to do the saddest things just to trick these jackasses. On the bright side, if everyone is as ageist as these polls indicate, then McCain is screwed.
